THE girls of the
English Club at Al Sahba School (Grade 5 to 10) in Al Amerat ignited a
spark with a real enthusiasm to spread their English language knowledge
in society and move the world in their own way. They organised an
English Language Competition for 15 schools in the Wilayats of Al Amerat
and Quriyat recently.
Al Sahba School hosted the
competition as part of its English language programme. During the
competition, the school was bustling with various activities — a writing
competition, grammar and comedy shows — all in English and it is
interesting to note that the language used on the day was only English
by both the teachers and the students.
The winners in all
categories of writing competitions, who were asked to write about
safety, came from Al Harith bin Khalid Basic School for Boys. Falah
Mohammed al Burashdi was the winner in 10th grade category, Tariq bin
Said al Shaidhani won 9th grade category and Yousif Abdul Wahab al
Balushi emerge winner in 8th Grade category.
In his work about safety on
roads, Falah wrote: “Roads in Oman are safe but young people misuse
their driving licenses. If all drivers control themselves, then we can
reduce accidents and every one should contribute in making our roads
much safer.” Yousif focused on the importance of a first aid box as part
of safety measures at home. The “First Aid box is very important because
different accidents can happen at home. In the box, one must keep
bandages, towels, plasters, cotton pads, and scissors that will be
readily available in time of need,” he wrote.
Tariq, who also wrote about
safety at home, noted that fire is dangerous. He gave tips on preventing
fire in which he said never to leave cooking food unattended. “Two out
of five deaths that occur because of cooking is because of leaving the
cooking food unattended,” he wrote.
